Paranormal Fail

'Paranormal' Photo Fails

Below are links to photographs that we feel are paranormal fails. Some of the photographs have been identified as paranormal--and even ghosts--by individuals and ghost hunters.

Do your research and don't be fooled by camera artifacts, hoaxes, fakes, frauds,
and common environmental phenomena.

NOTE: If your photograph, blog, story, or Web site is referenced below, realize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Try not to take things too personally.
  Faces and Figures

Don't be fooled. This is not a photo of a ghost
looking in a window at an infamous
haunted
  New England inn.

Your brain has the wonderful ability to
make sense out of ambiguous visual
stimuli, but that doesn't make it a ghost.

  Read T.A.P.S. Grant Wilson's excellent
article on this effect--known as matrixing
.

Below are links to several photographs of  'ghosts' that we feel are probably not paranormal.

  Plasma
   and ectoplasm

  Some people call
  these common
  camera artifacts
  plasma, super-charged
  energy, or ectoplasm
  and are identified as
  paranormal phenomena.

Consider T.A.P.S. Steve Gonsalves words about 'ectoplasm':

"Try to stay away from words that may cast a negative shadow on our research...You'll find that if you use words like ectoplasm...people will have a harder time taking you seriously"

Below are links to several photographs of these types of anomalies that we feel are not supernatural. Many are smoke, condensation, lights, and/or effects that even an amateur photograph can create accidentally--or on purpose.

Sights Unseen Paranormal

  Orbs

  These orbs aren't spirits
  beginning to manifest, but a

  99.9% of orbs are
  reflections, pollen, dust,
  bugs, or other common
  environmental stimuli.

  Lens Obstructions

  Lens obstructions may be
pieces of hair, camera straps, or
fingers in front of the camera lens
  and not spirits or ghosts.

  misidentified by ghost hunters.
