Blog, Article, and Web Site Fails!
Below are links to a variety of articles that we feel represent a complete willingness to jump to conclusions, illogical rationalizations, and other FAILS related to the paranormal.

Top Five Stupid Things Ghost Hunters Do
Ghost hunters do stupid things, us included. Educate yourself and avoid these "Top 5" fails.

Why Real Life Ghost Hunters Hate Their Television Counterparts
Heck, I enjoy watching ghost hunting groups on television, and continue to watch Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, and their ilk. However, there are lots of reasons why serious ghost hunters and paranormal investigators dislike these shows. They do fail on multiple levels, but hey, it's entertainment right?

Ghost Haunts Ramada Inn
People are still falling for this hoax that involves an iPhone app. that will put a ghost into your pictures. Where did this little girl originally come from? She's made a pretty infamous albeit fictitious ghost. No serious investigator considers a cell phone picture as legitimate evidence anyway.

Ghost Lab's Brad Klinge Threatens Physical Violence

Watch out fans of www.scifake.com. Brad Klinge--one of the stars of television's Ghost Lab--threatens physical violence on you! We'll take that challenge and are willing to meet Brad at anytime for a cage match. Brad, please E-mail this Web site to request a match with one of our team members. Grow up buddy! People who can't take criticism and resort to threats of violence either better put up or shut up!

New York Knicks Lose Due to Ghosts

Certified Ghost Hunters
You may as well flush your money down the toilet rather then pay someone to become a "certified" ghost hunter. If you are a serious investigator, read why taking a class in physics or psychology would be a much better use of your time in this well-rationalized article.

I Used my EVP Machine!
Paranormal investigator Bobby Elgee, teaches us how to spot a paranormal fail in this hilarious tongue-in-cheek article about the use of complicated technology for ghost hunting purposes.

Ghost Hunter Dies During Investigation
On August 27, 2010 a ghost hunter added his spirit to the many that haunt this railroad trestle. We provide this link as a cautionary tail for people everywhere and certainly do not intend any disrespect to the deceased or his family. Be careful out there.

Fictional Protagonists Can be Ghosts Too!
Ghost Hunters International--a popular television show--earns itself a paranormal fail by finding evidence of the ghost of a fictional person. Come on guys, do your research!

How to Use an EVP Machine
Julie Boehlke, a contributing writer at ehow.com earns herself a fail for using the term 'EVP Machine." Sorry Julie, you sound like an accomplished journalist, but you should do a little more research. It's proper name is tape recorder.

iPod Ghost Radar
A new app for your iPod that detects ghosts?

Case Manager Donna LaCroix Debunks Scy Fy's Ghost Hunters
The original case manager for Ghost Hunters lets loose  with many interesting tidbits of information. I liked Donna from the beginning and the show lost a lot of juice for me when she left. In this article about a radio appearance, she tells you why.

Shadowlands Fails
The Shadowlands is a popular paranormal Web site, but a random sampling of their links to local ghost hunting groups found a whopping 37% percent  that were bad or pointed to advertising pages. Be prepared to waste your time like I did. FAIL!

Another Psychic Fails
Patricia Putt--a famous psychic--accepts the standing million-dollar-challenge from skeptic James Randi...and fails.

What Do Ghosts Look Like?
Dr. Dave Oester and his wife Sharon of the International Ghost Hunters Society deserve credit for being pioneers in modern ghost hunting, but Dr. Oester's theories rapidly stack up like a house of cards in this entertaining article. Still, they have a great Web site with a TON of useful information essential for any paranormal investigator.

Smoking Gun Proof?
Another article from Dr. Dave Oester of the International Ghost Hunters Society that purports to have discovered the 'smoking gun' of vortex photographs. Are his conclusions legitimate or based on unsubstantiated theories and photographic artifacts? You decide.

Ghost Hunters PUNK'D

The owners of a supposedly haunted hotel attempted to get one over on Jason and Grant of TV's Ghost Hunters, but got caught doing so. Not sure if this was staged, but either way someone failed!

Exorcism Fail
This request for help features violent paranormal activity, an exorcism attempt that exacerbates things, and a bunch of people trying to be helpful in a series of follow-up postings.

Paranormal Bullcrap
This entertaining article is about the failings of modern-day paranormal television. The writer provides a list of 10 things you need to do to make a successful paranormal television show of your own!

Ghost Adventures Spots a Paranormal Fail

Nick and Zak are my favorite ghost hunters on television and generate some laugh-out-loud funny moments. They deserve a nod for catching a guest investigator faking some evidence of his own. Thanks to scifake.com for "lock down" of this fail.

Possession in Progress

An unfortunate young lady  with a religious bent ends up with a demon-possessed roommate...with all the symptoms of bipolar disorder. Disturbing anyone way you cut it...but paranormal? We doubt it.

Museum Fail
This article contains tons of information regarding Ghost Hunters filming at the Amos J. Blake House Museum in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire from a group with some insider information. It looks like they may have exposed a true Paranormal Fail.

Cat Predicts Deaths of Nursing Home Residents

A feline's ability to sense impending death is ascribed to its spiritual abilities, rather then something more logical.

Scy Fy's Ghost Hunters Visit Amos J. Blake Museum
A compelling and well-written deconstruction of a recent episode--New Hampshire Gothic--of the famous television show by a group with some insider information.

How to Fake a Ghost Photograph
Learn how to fake ghost photographs and avoid becoming a paranormal fail. For fun you could consider submitting your photographs to a ghost hunter's Web site, and laugh when they tell you that "Spirits seem to follow you around!" Knowledge is power...over the paranormal.

Kitty Sees Ghost: Exhibits Strange Behavior
Parapsychologists use a cat, dog, rat, and rattlesnake in a ghostly experiment? A cat exhibits strange behaviors? Heck, my cats exhibit stranger behavior then this on a daily basis. FAIL!!!

Man Disappears into Thin Air
This article is unsubstantiated folklore that has simply been repeated over the generations. It's originally from a science fiction story entitled "The Difficulty of Crossing a Field" by Ambrose Bierce which was set in Selma, Alabama in 1854.* Come on people! Do your research.

* Unexplained! Strange sightings, incredible occurrences and puzzling physical phenomena by Jerome Clark

Salem Massachusetts' Ghosts: Fact or Fiction

Steven Speilberg's Copy of 'Paranormal Activity' Haunted?

Steven Speilberg gets locked in his bedroom because of a haunted copy of this popular movie? The movie itself qualifies as a paranormal fail, as does the suggestion that Mr. Speilberg's DVD of it was haunted.

T.A.P.S Family Members

If you have a ghost hunting crew--and the ability to back up a toilet--you too can become part of the T.A.P.S. family! Make sure and read this article on a T.A.P.S. family member''s FAIL before you do.

Voice Recognition Paranormal
This team earns a fail because even thought "17 investigators attended this investigation" they discovered "audio recordings from several investigators revealed the voices of people we did not recognize." Talk about voice recognition experts! This purported "evidence" has to be discarded immediately. FAILED!

Haunted Tour Fails!
WARNING:
Some of the biggest fails are perpetrated by organizers of ghost hunting and haunted tours. When money is involved, it becomes a motivator in an attempt to make a location appear haunted.

If you want to take some real haunted tours with historical significance and a potential for paranormal activity, visit our friend Troy Taylor's Web site:

REAL HAUNTED TOURS

We're not condemning the tours linked below, in fact most of them are probably a lot of fun from a historical standpoint.

Spellbound Tours: Salem, MA
Mollie Stewart, a self-professed "licensed ghost hunter and supernatural expert" offers Witchcraft, Vampires, and Ghost Hunting tours of New England's most infamously haunted town. We've heard her tours are top-notch entertainment, but the photographs she presents as paranormal are pretty sketchy.

Haunted Hollywood Tours
Total schlock! This Web site deserves a fail both for being overly designed and painfully slow-loading, as well as including  the "OJ Crime Scene" and the "Manson Massacre Site" on its tour. But then again, it is Hollywood.

Haunted Vegas Tours
Every photograph on this tour's Ghostpix page can be debunked. In our opinion, this demonstrates a clear effort to exaggerate photographic and environmental artifacts to attract potential customers.

The Original Hauntings Tour; Savanah,Georgia

Not a bad Web site, with lots of historical information. Too bad they ruin it with some easily debunked ghost photographs in an attempt to lure more customers. This totally unnecessary tactic earned them a spot on this list.

Haunted Pub Tour; St. Augustine, Florida
This tour makes the list because of the photographs viewable on their Pictures page.  Nine are easily debunked orbs and one is an obvious hoax. But heck, it is a pub tour so at least you can get drunk with the 'ghosts.'

Amityville Horror Fail!

Media and Movie Fails
Paranormal fails abound in the media and movies. Check out the links below for some entertaining fails.

The Movie Paranormal Activity Fails

We had a hard time finding an honest review that didn't consist of rants and expletives. People reported strange feelings of being disappointed and a vague sense of wasting one's time. By most accounts this movie qualifies as a paranormal fail. On an up note Paranormal Activity 2 is getting some excellent reviews.!

"Haunting" in Connecticut

Joe Nickell, a member of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, does an excellent job tearing apart this well-publicized story and subsequent movie. We agree with you Joe--FAILED!

Hampton Court Ghost

The video of the Hampton Court 'Ghost' was picked up and recirculated by media outlets all over the planet. See a ghost from the 18th century operate a 20th century fire door. FAILED!!!

Lost Boys: The Tribe
Remember the phenomena that was the original Lost Boys? Sexy vampires did exist before the Twilight phenomena. Too bad this remake--bringing the two Corey's together again--couldn't capture the magic of the original eighties classic.

Dowsing Rod Matchmaker
Within minutes of picking up some dowsing rods, this student reporter is playing matchmaker--with encouragement from a team of ghost hunters--between two intelligent ghosts at the Amos J. Blake Museum in this article that appeared in the Keene State Equinox. The chances of a novice using dowsing rods and successfully finding water is highly unlikely, much less having a meaningful conversation with two conscious spirits.

News Team Faked Out
The team at cracked.com totally destroys a Rhode Island news team's inept attempt at reporting on a laughably faked ghost photograph. Ouch!

Paranormal Cops

A&E has been running promos for its newest supernatural television show entitled Paranormal Cops. Sorry, but the best part of seeing police on TV is when they are chasing a shirtless guy with a mullet, not hunting ghosts.

Grammar and Spelling Fails
No one is immune from the occasional misspellings and grammatical errors--especially us. We don't have anything against the organizations referenced below, they simply deserve mentioning for egregious grammatical and spelling errors, as well as sloppy writing.

NOTE: Though some of these errors have been corrected, they live on in infamy here.

Ceritfacate of Huanting

A location is deemed haunted by an individual named Vince Wilson who apparently provided the owners with this error-riddled certificate of authenticity. Dude!!! Hire a proofreader or at least use spell checker.

Triple Negatives Paranormal
Besides experimenting with a Oujia Board for entertainment, Conscious Spirits Paranormal Group gets a couple well-earned fails for using the following sentences on their Web site. Ouch!

"We can't suggest that you not fear the board just because we had nothing happen"*

"But we cannot say someone else did not experience an event we did not perceive." *

Captain Redundant Ghosthunters
Captain Redundant is our favorite super hero. Here, he swoops in to save the day  on a Web page full of awkward metaphors, unnecessary  adjectives, and stilted writing.

"...if you don't know where it is you would never find it."
*

Contradictory Orb Paranormal
Orbs are a conundrum. In this account, photographs of a moving orb are captured and "dust does not stay in one place" so this held an investigators interest and was deemed worthy of mention. Huh?

Also, I'd like to know what kind of Insect Detector they are using to eliminate insects as the possible cause of the phenomena. The Insect Detector I use is an older model and has some flaws!

"Michele experienced a moving orb in the upstairs loft. She captured its slow movement in a series of pictures. There were no bugs up there and dust does not stay in one place so her orb held her interest."*

Run-on Sentences Paranormal
Again, a bunch of fun-loving and nice people, but...more than using  the word entrails to describe "paranormal" photographs that are easily debunked camera artifacts, beyond ascribing intelligent motives to pictures of dust, and even greater than having a clunky Web site, Researchers-In-Paranormal-Specters deserves a fail for their expansive grammatical errors. Consider the two sentences below.

"It is pretty common here at RIPS HQ to see orbs even with the naked eye flying around this house, and nothing at any given time to hear bangs on the inside walls either."
*

"The group gets together regularly and completes their investigations strictly as a time to enjoy their friendship with one another and as a hobby that they have all been interested in."

Really Scientific Paranormal
Nightfall Paranormal deserves a fail for trying way too hard to convince people that they are conducting actual scientific research. I demand a full explanation of their experimental design, including their sampling methodology, as well as an Analysis of  Co-Variance (ANCOVA) that corrects for alpha slippage applied to their "results." Can you say pseudoscience?

"And last but not least, to contribute in any way we can to all the hard work that many scientists and other investigators have put over the years into this ongoing scientific research, with the hopes that one day this field is taken seriously enough and be given the importance it deserves within the rest of the scientific community."

Misleading, Misinterpretations, and Mis-takes

Even our own group, Sights Unseen Paranormal, is not immune to the occasional grammatical massacre. At least we ain't hypocrites, so we'll call ourselves on our use of this stretched-out, em dash using, poor excuse for an actual sentence. We could go back and rewrite this, but we won't because we FAILED

"Presentations of pieces of evidence like this--and the misleading open-ended conclusions or insinuations--may mislead the public to mis-identifying easily identifiable phenomena as paranormal."*
